Last year, due to pandemic-related policies, I stayed for three days at the “Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel” located in Lantau Island, Hong Kong. It is a 5-star hotel that opened at the end of 2020 with 218 rooms and suites. The sea-view floor-to-ceiling windows offer a beautiful view of the distant Hong Kong International Airport! Staying here is suitable for arranging a three-day trip to Hong Kong Disneyland, Tai O Fishing Village, and Tian Tan Buddha. It’s a 15-minute walk to the Tung Chung MTR station to take the cable car. I recommend it to travelers who want to stay near the airport but may not be suitable for those who want to explore the city center of Hong Kong.
Located about a 5-minute walk from Kaohsiung Railway Station, the First Class Hotel is themed around airplanes and offers good quality rooms at an affordable price. The hotel provides 24-hour front desk service and clean, comfortable rooms. It also collaborates with the High Speed Rail holiday program to offer package deals that include HSR tickets, making it an ideal choice for budget-conscious working professionals.
I stayed at Penta Hotel Tuen Mun for over 10 days. It is located just a 3-minute walk from Tuen Mun MTR Station, with nearby shopping malls, bus and tram stations, and even a McDonald’s and a cheap cinema. Everything from clothes, supplies, and food is within reach, making it an ideal place for long-term travelers on a budget.
I stayed at Hotel Cozi Wetland for more than ten days. As the name suggests, it is located in Yuen Long and is a chain hotel. It opened in 2017 and offers 336 modern and bright rooms with a sofa and desk, providing guests with a comfortable environment to enjoy their stay. I would recommend it to budget-conscious travelers who want spacious accommodation. However, I do not recommend it for short-term stays as commuting can be inconvenient.
Kinmen has nine national and 83 county-designated monuments on the small island. When you walk around Kinmen, you can see old houses in the Minnan style or Baroque buildings, and the most known ones are probably the ones you’ve read about in history books, such as the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis. There is a list of recommended accommodation on such a small island that you may wish to try when visiting Kinmen.
